Whether in a grand mandapam or an intimate Satsang in the simplest of shrines, his voice carries the power to still the mind, awaken the heart, and endear the devotees of Lord Muruga. Thiru Magantharen Balakisten stands as a rare beacon of spiritual artistry in our time, a musician par excellence whose performances transcend being concerts and create a bridge between the devotees and the Divine, each one becoming a unique spiritual experience, opening portals through which Divine Grace flows.

As an ardent servant of Lord Muruga, Magantharen has taken the glorious Thiruppugazh of Arunagirinathar Swamigal as his way of life. He has set various Thiruppugazh to tune and is regularly invited to Murugan temples around the world to sing them in concerts and special temple events. He was awarded the unique title of “Arungirichelvar” by the Guru Maha Sannidhaanam (Pontiff) – Thavathiru Kumara Gurubara Swamigal of Siravai Adheenam, Kaumaram Madhaalayam in Coimbatore under the auspices of the Ipoh Arunagirinathar Mandram in Malaysia and was also awarded the title of “Kanthan Pugazh Sudaroli” by the Maaviddapuram Kanthaswamy Temple in Sri Lanka.

Magantharen has recorded various audio albums and his music feature regularly on Jothi TV and other religious channels in India. He has a successful Youtube channel where his famed “Avinaasi Paththu” has accumulated more than 4 million views. In addition, he has compiled and distributed various religious books on Muruga Bhakthi and has written papers on Thiruppugazh that have been published internationally for various conferences and special events. Magantharen is also a scholar of Saiva Sidhaantha Philosophy under the Dharmapuram Adheenam.

Currently living in Perth, Magantharen conducts weekly vocal classes where he teaches Carnatic Music and Thiruppugazh to face-to-face learners as well as online for international students.
